Some of the commercial drones we can help find coverage for:

Multi-Rotor
Fixed Wing
VTOL
Hybrid

LEGALLY REQUIRED FOR COMMERCIAL USE:

In Michigan, all self-employed commercial drone operators are required to purchase two Drone Insurance coverages.  Typically, there is no federal law that requires Drone Insurance for recreational or hobbyist drone operators.

LIABILITY PROTECTION:

Drone Insurance shields your business from liabilities arising from injuries, property damage, or legal claims caused by the drone.  Without insurance, the drone operator could be personally liable for these costs.

BUSINESS INTERRUPTION:

In the event of drone damage requiring repair or replacement, insurance coverage can minimize interruptions to business operations.

PROTECTION FOR YOUR DRONE:

Optional coverage can safeguard your drone by covering repair or replacement costs in case of damage, loss, or theft.

Michigan Law Requires You to Purchase Two Drone Insurance Coverages:

Bodily Injury Liability(BI):

This coverage pays for the medical expenses of others involved in a drone accident if you’re at fault.  BI includes compensation for medical costs, pain and suffering, and lost wages of the injured parties.

BI does not cover injuries to the drone operator.

Personal Damage Liability (PD):

This coverage pays for the costs of repairing or replacing another person’s damaged property in a drone accident where you are found at fault.  PD covers repairs to their damaged property.

PD does not cover damage to the drone.   To cover damages and repairs to the drone, you must purchase optional Hull Coverage.

Optional Drone Insurance Coverages:

Personal Injury Coverage:

This coverage protects against non-physical injury claims arising from allegations of privacy violations, invasion of privacy, or other personal injury claims, like libel, slander, and defamation, as well as emotional distress, while operating the drone.  It may cover legal expenses if someone files a lawsuit against the drone operator for capturing their images or videos without consent.

Example: During a routine business flight, your drone accidentally enters a neighboring property, capturing footage without consent.  As a result, the property owner alleges trespassing and initiates legal action against you for invasion of privacy.  Personal Injury Coverage could assist in covering the legal expenses.

Hull Coverage:

Protects your drones and equipment against physical damage, covering incidents such as accidents, collisions, vandalism, loss, and theft, whether on the ground or in the air. If your drone is damaged or destroyed, Hull Coverage can help cover the cost of repairs or replacement, up to the policy’s limits and after any applicable deductibles.

Example: A strong gust of wind blows your drone into a nearby building, resulting in damage. Hull Coverage ensures that the repair or replacement of your drone is covered up to the policy’s coverage limit.

Frequently Asked Questions

In Michigan, commercial drone operators typically need to carry Drone Insurance as part of their licensing or certification requirements.  This is because commercial drone operations involve higher risks and potential liabilities, so insurance helps protect both operators and the public in case of accidents or damages.

On the other hand, federal law typically does not require Drone Insurance for recreational or hobbyist drone operators.  However, some home insurance policies may offer coverage for potential damages or liabilities caused by your drone, as well as coverage for theft or loss.   It’s essential to review your policy details to ensure your drone activities are adequately covered.

Drones are portable and can be vulnerable to theft or loss. Adding Hull Coverage to your Drone Insurance insures coverage for theft, allowing you to recover the value of the stolen drone. Additionally, coverage for accidental loss, such as a drone being lost during flight or damaged beyond repair, can help mitigate financial losses.

If your drone malfunctions or experiences technical issues, causing it to fly away and become lost, Drone insurance, including the optional Hull Coverage, would be necessary to cover the cost of replacing the lost drone.

If you lose control of your drone, causing it to crash into a building and damage the property, your Drone Insurance Property Damage Liability coverage would cover the cost of repairing the property damage caused by the drone. Additionally, you must have Hull Coverage to repair or replace your drone.
